Fata Narrat: Short Stories

Lighthouse Escape

In a small coastal town, the lighthouse keeper, Samuel, had lived for decades. Every night, he would climb the winding staircase and light the beacon, guiding ships safely through the treacherous waters of the bay. One stormy evening, a mysterious woman appeared at his door seeking shelter. Her eyes held a mix of fear and determination. Samuel was intrigued but cautious. As they sat by the fireplace, she shared her tale of being stranded on an island for years, with only a small, old lighthouse as company. Moved by her story, Samuel decided to help her escape.

That night, they planned a daring rescue in the midst of another storm. Samuel knew the risks but felt compelled to assist the woman who had reminded him so much of his late wife. They agreed that Samuel would use the ladder behind the lighthouse as their escape route once the storm reached its peak.

As predicted, the storm intensified rapidly. Lightning flashed across the sky, and rain pelted down mercilessly. Samuel watched intently from the lantern room, his heart pounding with anticipation. Finally, he saw the perfect moment-when the winds died just enough to allow a brief window of opportunity.

With a deep breath, Samuel descended the ladder, his movements deliberate yet swift. Reaching the ground, he found the woman waiting by the lighthouse door, her resolve unshaken despite the elements. Together, they hurried down the beach towards safety. The storm raged on as if aware of their escape.

Once they reached a safe distance, Samuel turned to the woman and saw gratitude in her eyes. 'I promise,' she whispered, 'to return one day and share my experiences with your community.' With that, she disappeared into the night, leaving behind a sense of longing for what lay ahead.
