Fata Narrat: Short Stories

Portal to Kepler-78b

In the year 2154, Captain Elara Myles stood at the helm of the interstellar ship Voyager. Her crew consisted of a diverse group of humans, aliens, and AIs, all united by a single mission: to explore uncharted regions of space. Today's destination was a distant planet, known only as Kepler-78b, which had recently been discovered but never explored due to its extreme conditions.

As Voyager approached the planet, Elara felt a mix of excitement and trepidation. The ship's instruments showed that Kepler-78b was incredibly hot, with temperatures soaring above 2000 degrees Celsius. But there was something else - readings suggested the presence of a mysterious energy field around the planet.

'Captain,' Lieutenant Kael, the communications officer, reported over the intercom. 'We're getting unusual signals from the surface.' Elara nodded and instructed the crew to prepare for landing. The landing module descended slowly through the atmosphere, its heat shield protecting it from the intense heat below. As they neared the ground, Elara could see strange metallic formations on the planet's surface - structures that defied explanation. The energy field seemed to fluctuate as the module approached, almost as if it was alive.

The landing was successful, and the team geared up for a cautious exploration of the area. Dr. Ravi Patel, the chief scientist, took point with Kael following close behind. They moved cautiously through the metallic structures, each step echoing in the silent landscape. Suddenly, a bright light appeared from one of the formations - a portal to another dimension. 'Captain,' Kael radioed urgently, 'we need to investigate.' Elara gave her approval and they approached the portal with caution.

With a collective breath, they stepped into the portal, stepping into an entirely new world filled with wonder and peril.
