Fata Narrat: Short Stories

Mansion of Shadows

In a small, quiet town nestled between rolling hills and lush forests, there stood an old, abandoned mansion. Legend had it that the mansion was cursed, and anyone who entered would never leave alive. Despite the warnings, young Lily, curious about the eerie tales, decided to explore the property one chilly evening. As she pushed open the creaking front door, a cold draft greeted her, sending shivers down her spine. The interior was dimly lit, with cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and dust settling on the floor. Her flashlight beam flickered over dusty bookshelves and broken furniture. Suddenly, the door slammed shut behind her, locking her inside. Panic surged as she realized she was trapped. Lily's initial curiosity turned to fear; she quickly made her way through the labyrinthine corridors, each step accompanied by echoing whispers. The mansion seemed to be alive, watching her every move. As she ventured deeper into the shadows, an unearthly chill crept up her spine. Then, from a room at the end of a long corridor, came a faint, otherworldly glow. With trembling hands, she approached and found a door slightly ajar. Inside was a small study with ancient books lining the walls, and in the center stood a chair with an ornate wooden desk. A figure began to materialize from the smoke rising from the desk-a spectral presence that Lily had only heard of in legends. The entity spoke in a voice like old bones creaking, warning her to leave at once. Realizing there was no escape now, Lily turned to face the ghostly form. She took one final breath, accepting her fate as she felt something cold and unyielding wrap around her heart.
